Today is Monday, Aug. 7 and here are five things to know today. Weather forecasters tell us to  expect severe weather today with thunderstorms during the afternoon.

2. Check Before You Go: Numerous recreation facilities close this week for annual cleaning. They include the Kennedy Shriver Aquatic Center closed through Aug 20., the Olney Swim Center closed through Aug. 20, Bauer Drive Recreation Center closed through Aug. 13, the Longwood Recreation Center closed through Aug. 13, the Praisner Recreation Center closed through Aug. 13, and the Scotland Recreation Center closed through Aug. 13. Also, starting today hours for the Bethesda outdoor pool change to noon to 5 p.m. every day for the remaining outdoor pool season.

3. Artist Deadline for Norfolk Avenue Mural Artist: The last day to submit an application to design and create the 2,000 square foot mural on Norfolk Avenue between Cordell and St. Elmo Avenues is today.

4. Pedestrian Safety: The MCDOT Pedestrian Safety Team will be outside the Giant Food on Cherry Hill Road in Silver Spring to promote pedestrian, driving, and bike safety to the residents of Montgomery County from 4 to 8 p.m.

5. Municipal Monday:   The Rockville Mayor and Council meet at 7 p.m. with a full agenda. The Gaithersburg Mayor and Council do not meet this week, their next meeting will be held Tuesday, Sept. 5 at 7:30 p.m.
