Plans are underway for a new public art mural located on Norfolk Avenue in Bethesda. The mural is part of the “Paint the Town” series of public art murals in downtown Bethesda.

This project involves painting about a 2,000 square foot portion of Norfolk Avenue between Cordell and St. Elmo Avenues. This section, known as the Norfolk Streetery is currently closed to cars and other vehicles.

The Bethesda Arts and Entertainment District invites area artists to submit applications by the Aug. 7 deadline. Applicants must have prior experience with the design and installation of large-scale murals, submit a resume with examples of their mural artwork, and include references.

Artists can apply online and learn more about the project on the Bethesda Urban Partnership website.

The proposed design should be suitable for outdoors, changes in temperature, and require minimum maintenance.  Paint choices must be specific to outdoor asphalt, such as StreetBond. The budget for the project is $20,000.

The project must be completed by Nov. 15.
