5 Things to Know Today, Aug. 9, In Montgomery County

It’s Tuesday, Aug. 9, and here are five things to know in Montgomery County.

1. Food Distribution: 13 Firstfield Road in Gaithersburg from 2 to 3 p.m. Also, 14500 Layhill Road in Silver Spring from 3 to 6 p.m. Registration required. And, 10700 Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Bring ID and two bags, only for walk-ins. The UpCounty Hub food distribution at Germantown Elementary School at 19110 Liberty Mill Road from 2 to 3 p.m.

2. Looking for a Job?  Montgomery Parks is currently looking to hire three Senior Equipment Operators. Applications must be submitted by Aug. 15.

3. Interactive Kids’ Concerts: The musical duo Two of a Kind performs four concerts this week at library branches as part of this year’s Summer Reading Challenge. The concerts are free. Today the group performs at Wheaton Library starting at 4:30 p.m. Click here to see the schedule for the rest of the week.

4. Tuesday Evening Bike Ride: Enjoy a casual neighborhood bike ride through Rockville hosted by the Rockville Bicycle Advisory Committee. The ride lasts about one hour and starts at 6:30 p.m. Riders meet at the Rockville Civic Center Park. The route is on on paved, shared-use paths, some sidewalks, and quiet streets. The group rides at the pace of the slowest rider – no one gets left behind. Rain or an impending storm at start cancels the ride; wet pavement does not.

5. Monkeypox Vaccine: Montgomery County is currently vaccinating a very small group of high-risk individuals. The health department released a preregistration survey for those interested in a vaccination when the county receives more doses.
