5 Things to Know Today, Feb. 12, in Montgomery County

Today is Friday, Feb. 12, and here are five things to know in Montgomery County:

1. Food Resources: There are two food distribution events happening today in Montgomery County. Additional resources may be found on the county website food resources page.

2. COVID-19 Testing: Free COVID-19 testing is available throughout the county at eight testing sites today, five Saturday, two Sunday, and three Monday.

3. 13th Annual HBCU College Fair:  The 13th Annual HBCU College Fair takes place virtually on Saturday, Feb. 13 from 10 a.m.–1 p.m. On-the-spot admission and scholarship interviews for 12th-grade students begin at 9 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 12. This free event provides students in Grades 8–12 an opportunity to meet representatives from more than 60 Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Registration to attend the fair virtually is available online. Registration for admission and scholarship interviews is accomplished through the student’s Naviance account.

4. Car-Free Streets:  The schedule for closing sections of Sligo Creek Parkway and Beach Drive includes Monday, Feb. 15 for the Presidents Day weekend.

5. Indoor Dining:  Just in time for Valentine’s Day, the county government has lifted the ban on indoor dining beginning Sunday at 7 a.m.

And one more thing:  A wintry mix of snow and ice are in the weather forecast for the weekend, starting Saturday afternoon.
