1. Extreme Cold: The county is under an Extreme Cold Alert until 9 a.m.

2. Snowstorm: The heavy snow turned landscapes into winter wonderlands before the higher temperatures and sunshine made it disappear from trees and branches.

3. Water is drinkable, but sewage spill will have long term effects: Potomac Riverkeepers Network called the Potomac Pipeline sewage release “one of the worst, if not the worst, sewage spills in U.S. history. Not only has this event created an on-going regional public health and environmental emergency, but it’s threatened our community’s dependence on the river – for recreation, for subsistence, and for livelihoods.”

5. Immigrant protection act signed into law: With the message that immigrants can trust Montgomery County, local leaders took what they called a major step to protect immigrant residents, signing new legislation at a public event in Wheaton on Friday.
