Today is Friday, Jan. 13. Here is the 10 day forecast and 5 things to know today as we head into the weekend.

1. Friday the 13th: There are two occurrences of Friday the 13th this year, today and again in 9 months on Oct. 13. There was only one Friday the 13th in the year 2022, in May. This day is considered by many as unlucky. Did you know triskaidekaphobia is the fear of the number 13?

2. COVID-19 Rent Relief: Today is the last day to apply for rent relief through the county’s COVID-19 program. Tenants have through midnight to apply.

3. Parents Speak Out: Two members of the public spoke out against Montgomery County Public School’s inclusionary and welcoming p9olicy toward the LGBTQ community during Thursday’s Board of Education meeting.

4. Weller Road Food Pantry:  Montgomery County Public Schools opened a new food pantry Thursday to support their community.

5. Vaccination Clinics: COVID-19 vaccinations are available this weekend at six schools from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. Appointments are encouraged and available online at the public schools’ vaccinations webpage.

And one more thing: The Maryland Vietnamese Mutual Association is hosting the festival, celebrating the Year of the Cat on Sunday, Jan. 15 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Northwood High School in Silver Spring. The Lunar New Year marks the beginning of Spring and a time for people to start anew.
