2. After-school pedestrian safety under scrutiny: Since the October 2025 death of 11-year-old sixth-grader Summer Lim, near Earle B. Wood Middle School in Rockville, a previously unreported traffic incident has come to light. Now, a third student has been injured near school grounds. Are two new stop signs enough to keep our children safe? MCM asked a traffic safety expert to provide insights.

3. Council plans hearings on bullying at Montgomery County Public Schools: An Odessa Shannon Middle School student was struck in the head by a metal object during gym class in October. After reading about the incident on MCM, Montgomery County Councilmember Laurie-Anne Sayles spoke with Councilmembers Will Jawando and Sidney Katz, and asked they look into bullying cases and how Montgomery County Public Schools handled them.

4. Upcounty rallies to protest year 5 without White’s Ferry: December marked the fifth year since White’s Ferry ceased operation. Nearby residents in the Ag Reserve and down county political figures gathered to express their frustrations about the stalemate that keeps the Ferry from running.

5. It is past time to remove flammable Christmas trees and decorations: One minute after Montgomery County firefighters set fire to a Christmas tree, it was totally engulfed in flames. In less than five minutes, the tree was a charred memory, as were the room’s furniture and the building structure itself.
