5 Things to Know Today, Jan. 8, In Montgomery County

1. Senior Fraud Prevention Forum: Montgomery County Council President Andrew Friedson hosts an online forum to discuss safety strategies to prevent being a victim of fraud. This presentation will share information with seniors on how they can protect themselves against hacking, scams, and other cyber problems. The forum takes place from 3-4:30 p.m. on Zoom.

2. MLK Tribute: One week from today, Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich and the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Committee present “We are Martin,a tribute honoring the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and heroes of The Civil Rights Movement. Free tickets are available on the Strathmore website.

3. District 15 Zoom Town Hall:  The Maryland General Assembly starts Tuesday, Jan. 10. The District 15 delegates and Senator Brian Feldman are holding a zoom town hall meeting tonight from 7-8:30 p.m. to discuss issues expected to come before the legislature this session. 4. Municipal Monday:  The Gaithersburg Mayor and Council meet at 7:30 p.m. for a worksession on tenant protections. The agenda and agenda packet are available online. The Rockville Mayor and Council meet at 7 p.m. The meeting agenda is available online.

5. (ICYMI): Olney native Kris Jenkins and Silver Spring native Quinten Johnson will be playing in the College Football national championship this evening.

And One More Thing: The Council is on recess through Friday, Jan. 12. The next Council session is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 16.
