It’s Thursday, June 18, and here are five things to know in Montgomery County. Check the weather forecast here.
1. Last Day of Early Voting: Today is the last day of early voting before Primary Election Day on Tuesday. See the county’s 14 early voting centers here. You must be in line by 8 p.m. to vote.
In an election special, MCM went down the ballot to help inform voters before they make their decisions. Seasoned political reporter Chris Gordon hosts this comprehensive look at the candidates and the issues voters care about most.
2. Juneteenth Tomorrow: Friday is Juneteenth, the day that marks June 19, 1865, when enslaved people were declared free in Texas more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. See Juneteenth events happening in Montgomery County.

3. Public Health Advisory: There continues to be a public health advisory for some waterways around Muddy Branch stream after high levels of “forever chemicals” — which can increase risk of cancer — were found in a stream and pond along Great Seneca Highway.

4. Wind Phone in Gaithersburg: In the Kentlands (see location here), the City of Gaithersburg installed a Wind Phone, which is a disconnected telephone in a quiet place to help people navigate grief by providing space to speak freely and have a one-way conversation with loved ones who have passed. The original Wind Phone was created in Japan. The one in Gaithersburg was proposed by community member Meaghann Diez, who wants to honor her late daughter, Hailey. See more here (This was updated to correct a mistake in location by the City of Gaithersburg)
5. ICYMI: County Executive Marc Elrich signed an executive order to put a six-month pause on data center permits.
