4. Spelling Bee: Larry Liao, a fifth grader at Cold Spring Elementary School in Potomac, is competing in the 2023 Scripps National Spelling. He is one of 231 spellers from across the country who made it to the preliminary round of the finals, which begins today.

5. (ICYMI): Milly Abdo, a fourth grader at Fields Road Elementary School, currently serves as Gaithersburg’s junior mayor. The Maryland Municipal League challenges fourth graders to write an essay about what they would do if they were mayor. Abdo’s essay was chosen from more than 80 entries.
