Living Legend Ida Pearl Green Passes Away at Age 106

Ida Pearl Green was honored as a Montgomery County Living Legend during the Juneteenth Celebration in 2022. She was recognized for her life of service to her community.

Ida Pearl died on Thursday, April 17, just two months short of her 107th birthday.

In 1958 Green became the first Black Avon representative in the state of Maryland. A widow she worked many jobs to support her family. Meanwhile, she continued trailblazing with her dedication to preserving African American heritage in the county.

One project close to home was the Pleasant View Historic Site which included the former Quince Orchard schoolhouse, the Pleasant View Methodist Church and the Pleasant View Cemetery.

Ida Pearl Green also served on many church and community committees in her lifetime. She was immortalized by her granddaughter and county medical officer Dr. Kisha Davis in the book “The Making of A Pearl.”

Over the years, MCM reported on her birthdays as she was celebrated by her family, friends and neighbors.

Her viewing will be held this Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. and Monday morning from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Fairhaven United Methodist Church in Gaithersburg.

Her funeral service will be held at the church on Monday at 11 a.m. following the viewing.
