Dr. Joseph Bostic, Jr., who has been Thomas Wootton High School acting principal since December of 2024, was named principal of the Rockville high school.
When Bostic’s promotion was announced at Thursday’s Board of Education meeting, members of the audience cheered loudly.
Bostic was Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) Teacher of the Year in 2021-2022.
He began his administrative role in Wootton when he replaced Doug Nelson. Nelson was placed on leave after an anti-Black slur was found on a student’s desk, and the incident was not reported for a few days.
Bostic has worked at MCPS for nine years as a teacher, team leader, content specialist, assistant school administrator, assistant principal and acting principal.
Other principals named Thursday were Monica Kellner at Twinbrook Elementary School, Ahmed Adelekan at James Hubert Blake High School, Edith Lee at Whetstone Elementary School and Stacey Heintze at Stephen Knolls School Elementary School.
