Police Offer Free Catalytic Converter Etching to Prevent Thefts

The Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) launched its Etch and Catch Program to combat catalytic converter thefts. On Sunday, Aug. 17, MCPD will provide county residents with free catalytic converter etching and painting in North Bethesda.

During the event, MCPD in collaboration with Fitzgerald Auto Mall will label the converters with an identification number that the police department will store in a database. This will help the department locate the device if one is stolen.

MCPD will also paint the converters a bright color and give drivers a window decal to further discourage theft.

The event will take place at the Fitzgerald Subaru and Hyundai on 11411 Rockville Pike from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Residents can contact Demond.Johnson@montgomerycountymd.gov to reserve a spot.
