Raskin, Delaney Discuss Where SNAP Stands For Marylanders

As uncertainty around SNAP benefits continues, U.S. Reps. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) and April McClain Delaney (D-Md.) talked about where the program stands Tuesday in Gaithersburg while the federal government shutdown reaches day 35.

SNAP benefits were set to expire Saturday, Nov. 1, but two judge rulings came down Friday ordering the Trump administration to use emergency funds to keep the program going. The federal administration will cover half of the November payments, and Maryland Gov. Wes Moore announced the release of $62 million to make up the other half so people can get their full benefits this month.

Speaking at Manna Food Center, leaders said Marylanders should see their November SNAP benefits thanks to the court rulings but expect about a one-week delay.

Leaders will be following what happens in future months.

In the meantime, county residents can find information about food resources online at the county’s Office of Food Systems Resilience, including Manna Food Center where leaders gathered Tuesday.
