The next school year will begin on Aug. 25, 2026 and end on June 16, 2027.
During its Thursday meeting, members of the Montgomery County Board of Education approved a 180-day school calendar. Days off include Labor Day, the Thursday and Friday of Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve through New Year’s Day, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, President’s Day, the Friday before Easter and the Monday after Easter and Memorial Day.
Those days off are mandated by the state.
Additional days off as agreed upon by the Board of Education include Sept. 11, 2026 for Rosh Hashanah, Sept. 21, 2026 for Yom Kippur, April 21, 2027 for Passover, May 17, 2027 for Eid al-Adha, Nov. 9, 2026 for Diwali and March 9, 2027 for Eid al-Fitr.
Juneteenth, June 19, 2027, falls on a Saturday and will be observed on Friday, June 18, 2027.
Students will not have school Oct. 16, 2026 for staff to attend a Maryland State Education Association convention.
There will be five early release days. Oct. 2, 2026 and March 5, 2027 will be used for grading and planning for interims. Nov. 23, 2026 and Nov. 24, 2026 are parent-teacher conference days.
Winter break for students begins Dec. 23, 2026 and ends Jan. 3, 2027. Spring break for students begins March 26, 2027 and ends April 4, 2027.
The 2026 Maryland gubernatorial election is Nov. 3, 2026, and there will not be any school that day.
