Montgomery County police arrested 28 individuals for driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs over the week leading into the New Year’s holiday.

The arrests were made during the seventh and last week of a police initiative known as the 2025 Holiday Alcohol Task Force Enforcement, which ended Jan. 3, 2026.

During this enforcement window, police officers conducted 307 traffic stops, issued 366 traffic citations and 408 warnings. In addition, 29 repair orders for vehicle safety violations were made. Officers also cited two alcohol restriction violations and issued one civil alcohol citation, reinforcing compliance with alcohol-related laws and safety regulations, according to MCPD.

As part of proactive DUI enforcement, officers administered six breath tests and made three criminal arrests. These arrests highlight the continued risk impaired drivers pose on roadways, particularly during holiday celebrations when alcohol consumption tends to increase, according to police.

Officials emphasized that the numbers reported reflect only enforcement actions taken by task force officers. DUI arrests made by patrol officers during routine operations are not included in these figures, meaning the overall number of impaired-driving arrests during this period is significantly higher.

The Holiday Alcohol Task Force Enforcement initiative brought together multiple law enforcement agencies to increase visibility, conduct saturation patrols, and promote safer driving behaviors during high-risk periods. The goal, said police, was not only enforcement, but prevention—encouraging motorists to plan ahead, designate sober drivers, use ride-share services, or avoid driving altogether after consuming alcohol or drugs.
