Summer has always provided athletes time to hone and refine their skills in whatever sport they are playing.
For the top men’s college players at Bethesda Soccer Club, the chance to represent their team at a very high level was offered for the first time this summer. Bethesda SC participated in the semi-pro United Soccer League Two, playing teams from all over the east coast.
“I grew up playing with Bethesda since my sixth-grade year so it has a soft spot in my heart,” said midfielder Isaac Busenze. “Being able to come back and play for them this summer and having them do this for the first time is big for us.” Buzense was a top local recruit who played his freshman season at N.C. State.
Sven Meacham just finished his sophomore year at Yale and got the opportunity to go back and play for his home town club team this summer. “I think we all came in to this first season with the club with a sense of pride for the name that we are wearing on our shirt and the badge,” Meacham said.
Pierre Dyer is the team’s head coach but he was also instrumental in being able to get Bethesda SC in to the semi-pro league to play. “Between being able to get the sponsors together and the Montgomery Soccer Plex as a venue is incredible,” Dyer said. “Doing all that to represent Montgomery County through the Bethesda soccer badge is incredible for us.”
Although Bethesda SC did not make the playoffs, the squad finished with a respectable 7-5-2 record.
