The Washington Nationals hope another home town player will be a great addition to their franchise.
The Nats selected Potomac’s Chris Hacopian in Major League Baseball’s first round draft, 11th overall. Hacopian, a second baseman, played for Texas A&M for one season. He spent the first two years of college baseball at the University of Maryland.
Hacopian grew up in Montgomery County and played baseball at Winston Churchill High School in Potomac where he was named the 2022 Maryland Gatorade Player of the Year. His father, Derek, was drafted by Cleveland in the 1992 Draft and went on to play five seasons in their Minor League system.
Hacopian will play in the Nationals farm system as a top infield prospect. He hopes to someday join Nationals young standout James Wood at the big-league level. Wood, already a two-time All-Star, grew up playing baseball in Oley.
