The Washington Nationals are having their best season since they won the World Series in 2019. One of the big reasons continues to be the play of Olney native James Wood.
For the second straight season, the outfielder has reached 30 home runs. Wood is the first National to hit 30 home runs in consecutive seasons since Adam Dunn did it in 2009 and 2010.
At the rate he is going, Wood could very well break the single season record of 46 homers, set by Alfonso Soriano in 2006.
Wood grew up playing Little League baseball for the Olney Boys and Girls Club. He was drafted by San Diego in 2021 and then traded to the Nationals in 2022.
The Nationals record is 55-53 and very much alive in the hunt for the playoffs.
