Ashford Named County’s New Public Health Services Chief

Dr. Nina Ashford, who has 15 years experience leading public health programing at the federal, state and local levels, was named Tuesday as Montgomery County’s Chief of Public Health Services.

Ashford will work in the county’s Department of Health and Human Services at an annual salary of $190,000.

She currently is a full-time faculty member at Tufts University School of Medicine, where she teaches foundational public health courses.

She has management and budgetary experience and is familiar with writing federal and state policies and regulations. She has developed and implemented programs aimed at improving health outcomes and eliminating health disparities among different populations, Ashford wrote in a letter to the county.
