Burtonsville man charged with killing his mother

A Burtonsville man has been charged with killing his mother.

Ricardo Adelso Colato Salamanca, 28, is in a North Carolina jail awaiting extradition to Maryland.

On May 16 after she did not report for work, officers responded to an apartment in the 3900 block of Blackburn Lane to check on Glenda Patricia Salamanca Reyes.

On their initial approach to the crime scene, police observed Salamanca Reyes’s vehicle, a white 2019 Jeep Compass, leaving the parking lot.

When the officers entered the apartment, they found the 50-year-old woman in the hallway. She was pronounced her dead at the scene, according to Montgomery County Police.

Following an autopsy the cause of death was determined to be multiple stab wounds. The case was declared a homicide. Police obtained an arrest warrant, charging Colato Salamanca with first-degree murder and motor vehicle theft.

When police reported the white Jeep on a national listing, it was located traveling south on Interstate 95.

On Monday, Colato Salamanca was found at a truck stop in Salisbury, North Carolina and was taken into custody without incident.
