Down 22, Churchill Comes Back to Top Walter Johnson in Thriller

Churchill came back from a 22-0 deficit to beat host Walter Johnson 32-30 in the final seconds in MCM’s Game of the Week.

After scoring 29 unanswered points, the Bulldogs led 29-22 in the fourth quarter when WJ scored on a 27 yard pass play with 1:23 to go. The Wildcats added a 2-point conversion to give them a 30-29 lead.

Churchill kicker Nasim Elkhassem had a chance to win the game with seconds remaining but the kick was wide left. WJ however got called for a running into the kicker penalty. Elkhassem’s second attempt with 8 seconds remaining — this time from 28 yards — was good. Bulldogs pull out a 32-30 victory to improve 8-1. The Wildcats drop to 7-2.

Churchill senior running back David Avit, MCM’s current High School Athlete of the Week, had over 300 all purpose yards including 248 on the ground and 4 touchdowns.
