Clarksburg Man Charged With Auto Theft, Illegal Firearm Possession

The Montgomery County Department of Police’s Major Crimes Division arrested and charged a Clarksburg man with auto-theft and unlawful firearm possession during an investigation into a stolen vehicle in Missouri, according to a press release.

This month, detectives from the Auto Crime Enforcement Section began an investigation into a Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT that was stolen in May through fraudulent means from a car dealership in Farmington, Mo. They identified the suspect as 25-year-old Jerald McCalla.

On July 20, a search warrant was executed at McCalla’s residence in Clarksburg. There the stolen vehicle was recovered from the garage along with other evidence.

During the search, multiple unregistered and unsecured loaded firearms were also found and seized from the residence. Upon further investigation, it was determined that children also lived in the residence where the unsecured firearms were located, with one child only being 7 years old, according to the press release.

McCalla was located in the residence and placed under arrest on the strength of both a warrant from Farmington Police Department and new charges from Montgomery County related to the recovered stolen vehicle and the seized firearms.

The suspect was then taken to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit, where he was charged with illegal possession of firearms, illegal possession of ammunition, unlawful firearm access to minors, vehicle theft, and reckless endangerment. He is currently being held without bond, according to the press release.

Once McCalla’s charges are adjudicated in Montgomery County, he will be extradited to Missouri for the charges placed on him through the Farmington Police Department.
