scaffolding collapse

Two construction workers clung to scaffolding nine stories up after its ropes snapped, according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services.

On Tuesday at around 4:12 p.m., fire and rescue crews were dispatched to a residential apartment building located at 9701 Fields/Washingtonian Towers Road in Gaithersburg for a report of a scaffolding collapse.

Upon arrival, crews discovered a collapsed scaffolding on the 9th floor, which trapped the two construction workers. Video footage of the incident shows the scaffolding flying around and crashing against the building. This caused damages to a 15th floor apartment.

The workers managed to escape through a 9th floor apartment window. The workers did not display injuries and declined transport to a nearby hospital, but were shaken up after the ordeal, fire and rescue personnel say. Crews managed to secure the scaffolding and left the scene in the care of building management.

No information on the cause of the incident has been released. MCM will update the story when more information becomes available.
