Classes Teach Adults How to Ride a Bike

The Montgomery County Department of Transportation sponsors six classes for residents interested in learning how to ride a bicycle. The classes are for adults and will be taught by the Washington Area Bicyclist Association (WABA).

The classes target adults who have never ridden a bicycle before or have not been on a bicycle in many years. Students learn to start and stop, balance, glide, pedal and steer a bike. Each student will progress at their own pace.

The cost of the class is $10 for county residents, and there is no fee for those who have a membership with WABA or Capital Bikeshare. The class size is limited to 25 people; classes fill quickly.  Registration is available online at the transportation department’s website or by calling 240-777-8380.

The rental of a bicycle and a helmet is included in the cost of the class.

Scooter classes are also being offered on a drop-in basis on select days. Scooter classes do not require pre-registration.
