County Continues Streak of Days With Sub-4% Positivity Rate

Montgomery County COVID-19 Statistics for Feb. 22

Since Friday, Feb. 19, the Maryland Department of Health has reported 289 new cases of COVID-19 in Montgomery County — 102 Saturday, 100 Sunday and 87 Monday. The county’s cumulative case count is 62,523.

Montgomery County recorded three new coronavirus-related fatalities since Friday, Feb. 19 — zero Saturday, one Sunday and two Mondaybringing the death toll to 1,353.

The county has a rolling seven-day average of 3.38% for positive COVID-19 tests, which is a decrease of 0.11 from Sunday’s average rate of 3.47%. The county’s positivity rate is lower than in 16 of Maryland’s 24 jurisdictions. The last date the positivity rate was lower than 3.47% was Nov. 3’s rate of 3.27. This is the ninth straight day the positivity rate remains below 4%.

Montgomery County leads the state in total COVID-19 related fatalities but not in total cases. Prince George’s County has 1,278 fatalities and the most coronavirus cases in the state with 72,250 cases.

Somerset County has the highest per capita cases with 92.3 cases per 1,000 residents. Allegany County in the western region of the state has the second-highest cases per capita at 90.8 cases per 1,000 residents.

Maryland COVID-19 Statistics for Feb. 22

Since Friday, Feb. 19, the state recorded 1,992 new infections — 763 Saturday, 618 Sunday, and 611 Monday. The state’s cumulative case count is 376,966.

On Monday, the state reported 992 patients were hospitalized across the state with the virus. COVID-19 related hospitalizations continue to drop.

Maryland recorded 55 new coronavirus-related fatalities since Friday, Feb. 19 — 20 Saturday, 18 Sunday and 17 Monday bringing the death toll to 7,550.

The state reported a rolling seven-day average of 3.91% for positive COVID-19 tests Monday. This is a decrease of 0.17 from Sunday’s rate of 4.08%. This is the first day the positivity rate is below 4% since Nov. 2 when the rate was 3.93% and the 11th straight day the rate remained below 5%.
