County to Host Conversation on Suicide Prevention and Mental Health

The County will be hosting an online conversation open to all residents focused on suicide prevention and mental health on Wednesday, March 10 from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.

This session is a part of Wellness Community Events: Healing and Holding On—One Conversation at a Time for the Community, a series of discussions created by the County as an initiative to address mental health and wellness issues affecting the community amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Wednesday’s conversation will be presented by Tammi Ginsberg and David O’Leary from the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP).

Ginsberg, board president of the AFSP Maryland Chapter, is a Montgomery County-based licensed clinical professional counselor and suicide loss survivor. O’Leary, a board member for the AFSP Massachusetts Chapter and member of the AFSP Chapter Leadership Council, is also a suicide loss survivor and has been a voice for suicide prevention for the AFSP for over 20 years. The two will be sharing their personal experiences with suicide loss and mental illness, along with information on self-care and how to reach out to a person in a potential mental crisis.

The virtual meeting is free and no registration is required. Those who wish to join the conversation can find the session on Teams Live, view it on County Cable Montgomery, or on the County’s Facebook.
