A multiple vehicle collision in Silver Spring led to several injuries and a Cybertruck split in half.
On Saturday, July 18, at around 1:43 p.m., Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services and police responded to a call about a multiple vehicle collision at Columbia Pike and Fairland Road in Silver Spring.
The crash was caused by a moving truck that lost control, officials say. The moving truck collided with at least 10 other vehicles. One of the vehicles involved was a Tesla Cybertruck which was split in half during the accident.
The collision resulted in 10 people being transported to the hospital for minor injuries. Three of the victims were children, according to the police.
The moving truck and eight additional vehicles sustained disabling damage and were towed from the scene.
The driver of the moving truck was issued the following traffic citations:
- Negligent driving vehicle in a careless and imprudent manner endangering life, property and person
- Failure to control vehicle speed on highway to avoid collision
- Driving vehicle in excess of reasonable and prudent speed on highway
- Driver of motor vehicle following vehicle closer than reasonable and prudent speed on highway
