Elrich: ‘We Eased Some Restrictions and We Tightened Others’

During his weekly virtual media briefing on Wednesday, Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich gave updates regarding the recent amended executive order to allow more businesses to reopen under Phase 2 Guidelines. Elrich says while some restrictions have been eased, others have been tightened.

Businesses that offer services like waxing, tanning, tattooing, facials, and massages are now open with restrictions. Also, restaurants are required to stop serving alcohol at 10:00 p.m. Elrich says these decisions are based on the county’s data dashboard, and contact tracing results.

Montgomery County Health Officer Dr. Travis Gayles also commented during the weekly briefing. He says while the county’s case numbers are in a plateau, there still needs to be a decrease in order to move forward into the next reopening phase.

“We continue to remain committed to the principals of lowering our community transmission and lowering our daily caseloads because those are the drivers that will allow us to successfully be able to reopen a host of different aspects of society,” said Dr. Gayles.
