An unconscious person was revived and taken to the hospital following a fire Thursday night in an apartment complex in Derwood, according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue officials.
The fire broke out in a third-floor apartment at Mallard Cove on Needwood Road, causing about $75,000 in damage and displacing five people, according to Fire and Rescue Spokesperson Pete Piringer.
When crews arrived at the apartments, they saw flames coming from the top floor. Firefighters entered and found a person unconscious inside an apartment. They resuscitated the person and transported them to a local hospital for burns and smoke inhalation issues, Piringer said.
Several other people got out of the apartments on their own, he said.
Five people were not able to reenter their apartments last night due to the fire and water damage that occurred while crews were battling the blaze.
In total, 70 firefighters worked to put out the blaze.
