Five Things to Know for Jan. 3 in Montgomery County

1. Blood Drive:  The Red Cross will be conducting a blood drive at the Gaithersburg Library from noon to 4 p.m. today. Register by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS or online at the Red Cross website. Registration is not required.

2. Rockville Pike Road Closure:  The right lane of Rockville Pike from Jones Bridge Road to South Wood Drive heading north in Bethesda may be closed today, according to the county transportation department.

3. Towel and Blanket Drive:  The Takoma Park Police Department is supporting the Montgomery County Animal Shelter by collecting new and gently used bath towels, beach towels, bathroom rugs, sheets, hand towels, wash cloths and blankets from today through the end of January. Drop off your donation at the Takoma Park Police Department lobby at 7500 Maple Avenue.

4. LEGO Play: Kids with parents can drop in to build and play with LEGOS and Duplos at Twinbrook Library today from 4 to 5 p.m.
