Five Things to Know Today, Aug. 11, in Montgomery County

It’s Tuesday, Aug. 11 and the county council is on recess through Sept. 11.  Here are five things to know in Montgomery County.

1. Maryland Tax-Free Week Continues:  All week long in Maryland, shoppers don’t have to pay state sales tax. Take advantage of Maryland Tax-Free Week by fitting in back to school shopping. Here’s more information.

2. Senior Planet Montgomery: Senior Planet Montgomery is continuing to offer technology classes for seniors. There are three classes scheduled for today:

  • 11 a.m. – noon: Online Health Rx Resources lecture.
  • 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.: IoT Healthcare is a lecture on smart apps for seniors.
  • 4 to 5 p.m.: Lecture on how to use Zoom.

3. Clear the SheltersAll month long Montgomery County Animal Services and Adoption Center is celebrating “Clear the Shelters.” Fees to adopt a pet will be discounted by at least 50%. Here’s more information:

4. Yoga in the Park: The City of Gaithersburg is hosting a physically distancing-friendly Yoga in the Park event from 7 to 8 p.m. at its concert pavilion, located at 27 South Summit Avenue.
