Five Things to Know Today, Jan. 19, in Montgomery County

Today is Tuesday, Jan. 19, and here are five things to know in Montgomery County:

1. Council in Session: Montgomery County Council meets virtually at 9 a.m. Here’s a full look at the meeting’s agenda. The meeting will be televised on County Cable Montgomery Channels Comcast HD 996 and SD6, RCN HD 1056 and SD 6, and Verizon 30. Additionally, it will be live-streamed on the council’s Facebook and Youtube channels.

2. School Board meets:  Montgomery County Board of Education has a virtual work session, which starts at 1:30 p.m. Here’s a look at the school board’s agenda. During the work session, the school board is holding a public hearing on Superintendent Jack Smith’s proposed budget for the fiscal year 2022.

3. COVID-19 Testing: Free COVID-19 testing is available throughout the county at 11 testing sites today. Click here to view the schedule of clinics.

4. MLK Week of Volunteering: The Montgomery County Volunteer Center has service opportunities all week long in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Click here for a list of opportunities. MCPS students can also earn service learning hours for several of the projects.

5. COVID-19 Vaccine Survey:  Montgomery County launched an online survey for residents to better understand concerns about receiving the COVID-19 vaccine.  The survey is online and open through Feb. 4. Respondents may remain anonymous and the survey is available in seven languages.
