Fourth of July Fireworks, Parades Around Town

Montgomery County recreation is again hosting the Germantown Glory and Mid-County Sparkles fireworks displays to celebrate Independence Day. Both will feature live music prior to the fireworks. Here’s a rundown of parades and fireworks displays around the county:

Gaithersburg SummerFest:
Saturday, July 1 at 9:25 p.m. SummerFest takes place from 6 -11:30 p.m. and features live music, food trucks, local breweries and family-friendly activities. Fireworks at 9:25 p.m. at Bohrer Park at Summit Hall Farm, 506 South Frederick Avenue, Gaithersburg. Limited parking is available onsite, a parking map can be found here. Boyds/Germantown Glory:
Tuesday, July 4 at 9:15 p.m. at the South Germantown Recreational Park, 18041 Central Park Circle in Boyds. At 7 p.m., live music starts with a concert by Forever Tina, a tribute band to the late queen of rock and roll, Tina Turner. Food will be available for purchase. Attendees may bring low lawn chairs, coolers and blankets, but alcohol is prohibited. Find more information, here.

Kensington / Wheaton Mid-County Sparkles:
Saturday, July 1 at 9:15 p.m. at Albert Einstein High School, 11135 Newport Mill Road in Kensington. Entertainment begins at 6 p.m. with live concerts by Ocho de Bastos and the Earth Wind and Fire Tribute Band.  Food will be available for purchase. A free parking and shuttle service will be provided starting at 5:30 p.m. from Westfield Wheaton, 11160 Veirs Mill Road. There will be no on-site parking at the school or on adjacent properties, except for handicapped parking. Find more information, here.

Poolesville:
Tuesday, July 4 at dusk at the Soccer Fields at Hughes and Sugarland Roads, 14660 Hughes Road. Gates open at 5 p.m. Food will be available for purchase. No alcohol or pets are allowed. Live music features Rock “N” Roll Special Delivery Band at 6 p.m. Fireworks at dusk. Parking is $10 per vehicle. Find more information, here.

Rockville:
Tuesday, July 4 at 9:15 p.m. Live music by Under the Covers begins at 7 p.m. Fireworks at 9:15 p.m. at Mattie J.T. Stepanek Park, 1800 Piccard Drive in Rockville. Parking is available in lots along Shady Grove and Gaither Roads. as well as on Piccard Drive. A parking map can be found here. Find more information, here.

Takoma Park 4th of July Parade:
Tuesday, July 4 at 10 a.m. at Takoma Park Community Center, 7500 Maple Avenue in Takoma Park. The parade begins at Carroll & Ethan Allen Avenues, travels south on Carroll Avenue, turns right on Maple Avenue, and continues to Ritchie Avenue. Find more information on the parade, here.

Takoma Park Evening Street Celebration:
Tuesday, July 4 at 6 p.m. along Maple Avenue between Philadelphia Avenue and Ritchie Avenue. The street party features food trucks, beer and wine garden, kits’ activities with Let’s Play America.  Live music features Takoma Park Community Band from 6-7 p.m., The JoGo Project from 7-8 p.m., the Yellow Dubmarine from 8-9 p.m. Jared Garelick is the Master of Ceremonies. Unlike previous years, Takoma Park will not be hosting fireworks this year as the Takoma Park Middle School field is permanently unavailable as a fireworks location.
