From Silver Spring to NBA Champ: Josh Hart helps Knicks win first title since 1973

For the first time since 1973, the New York Knicks are NBA champions and Montgomery County native Josh Hart played a big part in bringing the trophy back to New York.

Hart delivered another trademark performance Saturday night, scoring 13 points and pulling down a team-high 11 rebounds as the Knicks defeated San Antonio 94-90 to clinch the NBA Finals.

The Silver Spring native’s relentless hustle, toughness and leadership have been hallmarks of the Knicks’ championship run.

Hart consistently provided the energy and determination that made him one of the team’s most valuable contributors.

Hart attended Wheaton High School before transferring to Sidwell Friends in Washington, D.C. He was a first-team All-Met selection as a senior. Hart later helped lead Villanova to the 2016 NCAA championship.

He was a first-round pick in the 2017 NBA Draft and has played for the Los Angeles Lakers, New Orleans Pelicans and Portland Trail Blazers before finding a home in New York.

Hart is just the second player from Montgomery County to win an NBA title. Gaithersburg’s Malcolm Miller won the NBA Championship with the Toronto Raptors in 2019.
