Gaithersburg Man Killed in Delaware Lyft Incident

43-year-old Sidney “Sid” Wolf, a husband and father to two children who lived in Gaithersburg, was killed during a dispute with a Lyft driver on Sunday. The incident occurred around 2 a.m. Sunday morning, on southbound Coastal Highway (Route 1) south of Anchor Way, Dewey Beach, Delaware.

Wolf and five of his friends had ordered a Lyft to transport them from Dewey Beach to Bethany Beach. As they were traveling, a disagreement between the Lyft driver and the riders broke out. The driver terminated the ride, stopping in the middle of the southbound left lane.

As the driver demanded the six passengers to exit the vehicle, another vehicle approached the same southbound lane. According to a press release issued by the Delaware State Police, the other vehicle was a 2016 Toyota Corolla.

The driver of the Corolla changed lanes to avoid striking the rear end of the Lyft, failing to see the passenger, Wolf, exiting the vehicle.

After the impact, the driver of the Corolla pulled over to the shoulder of the road. The Lyft driver fled right after the crash and has not yet been identified.

Wolf was pronounced deceased at the scene. The other passengers were not injured.

A GoFundMe page has been uploaded to support the family.

Wolf was also a Campaign Manager for the re-election of County Councilmember Sidney Katz, who represents District 3.

“It’s just such a horrible situation. I spoke to Sid on Friday and had a nice, pleasant conversation,” Katz told Fox 5 DC. “He was just such a nice young man. He was a family guy—he was somebody who had a good sense of humor and was fun to be around.”
