Gaithersburg’s Oktoberfest Returns Sunday, Oct. 8

The city of Gaithersburg presents the 30th annual celebration of Oktoberfest at the Kentlands on Sunday, Oct. 8, from noon to 5 p.m.

The festival takes place in the Arts Barn, Kentlands Mansion, Kentlands Village Green and along Main Street and Inspiration Lane. Admission and parking are free. Free wheelchair accessible shuttle service will run regularly during festival hours to and from satellite parking located at 101 Orchard Ridge Drive, just off of Quince Orchard Road.

The Alte Kameraden German Band and Alt-Washingtonia Bavarian Dancers perform traditional Oktoberfest songs and dances. Savor traditional festival food while enjoying selections from local breweries, including Festival partners Dogfish Head Alehouse and Saints Row Brewing. Clear Skies Meadery, Landmade Farm Brewery, Two Story Chimney Ciderworks, and Silly Yak Beer will also be available, as well as a non-alcoholic beer for sale by Sobar.

Professional pumpkin carving and apple cider pressing demonstrations are one of many fall activities. Others include inflatables, crafts, pumpkin and face painting, balloon twisting, artists and crafters, and strolling entertainers. Live entertainment on three stages feature Sol Roots, La Unica, Donuts for Dinner, and The Real Geniuses. Stroll through the business expo and explore restaurants and retail shops in the Kentlands. Some activities have a nominal fee.

Oktoberfest at the Kentlands is hosted in partnership with the Kentlands Downtown Partnership, the Kentlands Citizens Assembly and the Kentlands Community Foundation, Growlers Brew Pub, and Pinky and Pepe’s Grape Escape.

Street Closures

Starting at 6 a.m., the following streets will be closed and will reopen at approximately 9 p.m.:

  • Main Street from Midtown to Market Street West
  • Inspiration Lane from Main Street to Golden Ash; between Briscoe and Selby – Closed
  • Inspiration Lane from Firehouse to Briscoe and Golden Ash to Selby Street – Limited access passes only
  • Firehouse Lane from Leeks lot to Inspiration Lane – Closed
  • Kent Square: All
  • Selby Street: All
  • Kentlands Boulevard (both circles): No 360 traffic between 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Kentlands Boulevard (cross overs): At 7-11 and Whole Foods parking lots entrances – Closed all day
  • Hart Road between Golden Ash and Firehouse Lane – Limited access (pass only)
