How Drunk Driving Law Would Close Important Loophole

In October of 2016 a new law, the Drunk Driving Reduction Act, went into effect in Maryland. Noah’s Law, as it has become to be known, was named after the young police officer struck down by a drunk driver while on duty at a sobriety checkpoint.

Noah Leotta’s father, Richard, led a hard-won crusade to get it enacted. Now closing a loophole in the law could make it more effective. State Senator Jeff Waldstreicher has championed closing that loophole. Here’s what he told MCM about the amendment and its progress through the General Assembly.
