A man assaulted officers as he was arrested for an armed robbery over the weekend at Westfield Montgomery mall, according to police.
Kilbert Rosales, 34, is charged with armed robbery, theft, resisting arrest, assault, destruction of property and related charges. He has no fixed address, according to online case records.
On Saturday, an off-duty officer was flagged down by the Bethesda mall’s security for an armed robbery that just happened, according to Montgomery County police.
A man and woman were in a parked car in a parking garage when the suspect opened the driver’s side door, showed a knife and threatened them, according to a police recount. Then suspect stole cash and property from them before leaving.
Officers got a description of the suspect and then one of the victims saw Rosales later near the scene. He was placed in handcuffs and a police search revealed a box cutter that the victims said was the weapon he used.
Rosales resisted arrest, assaulted officers and “repeatedly struck his head” against a window of the police car before he was placed inside. He shattered the glass and had a facial laceration. At the processing center, Rosales reportedly assaulted correctional officers.
He is being held without bond.
