Nathaniel Potts (victim)
A suspect has been arrested this week in connection with the 2022 murder of a Silver Spring music artist who was fatally shot on his birthday, according to the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD).
Jason Duane Moore, 47, of Silver Spring, was arrested Tuesday for killing 29-year-old Nathaniel Potts in December 2022, according to MCPD.
He is charged with first-degree murder, use of a firearm in a felony and assault.
Potts was shot in the parking lot of the Summit Hills apartment complex on 16th Street in downtown Silver Spring where he lived. He later died at a hospital.
Moore was identified as the suspect through an investigation, according to police.
In 2023, Potts’ family members spoke out, urging anyone with information to come forward. They said Potts leaves behind his daughter, who was 10 years old at the time. Potts’ older sister described her brother as “a pretty remarkable person … an artist, but he was a family man first.” Potts was a musician known as Nate SkyWalker.
At that time, County Police Detective Michael Kwarciany called the crime a “very deliberate, premeditated” homicide that involved more than one suspect. He said Potts came home from celebrating his birthday, got out of his car, and then became involved in a confrontation with a suspect. As he tried to get into his apartment, Potts was shot and killed.
Detectives ask anyone with more information about this case to call the Major Crimes Division at 240-773-5070, or visit the Crime Solvers website or call the Crime Solvers tip line at 1-866-411-8477. Police said there is no mugshot for Moore.
