A man with a loaded handgun was caught by officers at the Silver Spring Metro station after he was stopped for fare evasion, according to the Montgomery County Police Department.
Officers were walking around the metro station at around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday when they stopped the man, whom they saw skip out on paying fare at the station, according to 3rd District Commander Capt. Jason Cokinos. They tried to stop him, but he fled. When apprehended, he then struggled with officers. The loaded handgun was found upon his arrest.
The police were part of a special Holiday Crime Suppression Task Force, which operates in December in Silver Spring and focuses on retail and transit crimes, and safety public gathering areas, according to Cokinos.
