Friday, March 15

March Madness: High school students are invited to this event at White Oak Recreation Center on Friday March 15 and 22 from 5 to 9 p.m. Bring your squad and enjoy non-stop competitive action on the basketball courts against other high school students in the county. Snacks and drinks are provided. White Oak Recreation Center is located at 1700 April Lane in Silver Spring. Free, registration requested on line here or call 240.777.6840.

St. Patrick’s Day Leprechaun Hunt: This activity is designed for young children ages 3 to 5 and their adults.  Search for leprechauns and their pots of gold at the Maydale Nature Classroom Friday, March 15 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Fee is $6. Learn more and register here. The classroom is located at 1638 Maydale Drive in Colesville.

Seussical Jr. the Musical: Next Generation Arts, an inclusive youth theater company, presents this musical about the Dr. Seuss character Horton the Elephant and narrated by the Cat in the Hat. Recommended for ages 5 and up. Performances are Friday at 7:30 p.m., Saturday at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. and Sunday at 1 and 4 p.m. Tickets are $15. Saturday, March 16

Adventure Park Opening Weekend:  The Adventure Park opens Saturday, March 16 for the season. The aerial adventure park has 16 courses made up of bridges, ziplines, ladders, rolling elements and unique climbing challenges. The park is open Fridays through Sundays with varying hours. Admission fee varies. Learn more about options and purchase tickets here. The Adventure Park at Sandy Spring Friends School is located at 16701 Norwood Road in Sandy Spring.

22nd Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade: The Gaithersburg parade takes place Saturday, March 16 at 10 a.m. at the Rio shopping area, located near I-370 and Washingtonian Boulevard. Following the parade, attendees can enjoy festive live music, specials, and family fun throughout the Rio lakefront. Free parking is available in three garages along Washingtonian Boulevard.

Gaithersburg’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade Celebrates Irish Culture

Saturday Morning Kid Flicks:  Take the family to the first showing Saturday mornings at Regal for just $2 a ticket. Saturday, March 16 Regal Rockville Center and Regal Germantown are screening KID: Shrek at 11 a.m. Also, Regal Germantown is screening KID: The Lego Movie 10th Anniversary at 11:30 a.m. as part of the Regal Saturday Morning Kid Flicks promotion. Sunday, March 17

Easter at the Stables: Families with children ages 3 to 12 may enjoy a number of springtime crafts and activities including egg dying and creating bunny and egg themed planters at the Stone Farm pavilion at the Stables of Rolling Ridge Sunday, March 17 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Tickets are $25. Norouz Around the World: Celebrate the Persian New Year with this dance performance by Nomad Dancers Sunday, March 17 from 3 – 5 p.m. at the Sandy Spring Museum. The family-friendly program will include an intermission and culminate in a short workshop where the audience can learn a traditional Persian dance. $10 general admission. Harpists at the Discovery Center: Enjoy an afternoon of beautiful harp music and the natural beauty of Little Seneca Lake at Black Hill Discovery Center, Sunday, March 17 from noon to 1 p.m. Free. Black Hill Discovery Center is located in the Black Hill Regional Park at 20926 Lake Ridge Drive in Boyds.
