Welcome to MCM’s Weekend Roundup of entertainment in Montgomery County for the Memorial Day Weekend. Here are 12 things to do this weekend, May 24-27.

Friday, May 24

Glen Echo Park Art Exhibit: The Park View Gallery presents Borderline Edge, a solo exhibition by artist Elizabeth Casqueiro. The exhibition explores the notion of borderline edge with mixed-media painting. Casqueiro, a Portuguese immigrant with a background in architecture, explores the geometry design and the delicacy of flowers and patterns in her work. Free. Family Storytime: A storytime experience for children and their adults on Friday, May 24 at 10:30 a.m. at the Maggie Nightingale Library. The session is designed to introduce children to the culture of reading with books, songs, rhymes and fun activities. Funbox Bounce Park: This traveling 25,000 square foot bounce house is at Westfield Wheaton Mall from now through June 30. Attractions include a 23 foot slide, obstacle course, and ninja wall. Saturday, May 25

Hometown Holidays Music Fest: Hometown Holidays Music Fest is a free festival featuring two stages of music; food vendors; kids activities including amusements (fee), entertainment, sand dunes, and yard games; beverage booths; and sponsor and city services booths. Bring a blanket or lawn chair and enjoy a variety of music, food and beverages while enjoying the beautiful landscapes of RedGate Park. Mr. Jon & Friends at Long Branch:  Mr. Jon uses rhymes, songs, books and puppets for a musical comedy show for young children and their adults, Saturday, May 25 at Long Branch Library from 3–4 p.m. Free. Maryland Plant Fest: Plants Alive! hosts this two day festival with rare plants, food, drinks and entertainment. Plants Alive! is a local company specializing in plant/decor rentals and houseplants. The event hours are Saturday, May 25 and Sunday, May 26 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Free, reserve a spot online. The greenhouse is located at 15710 Layhill Road in Silver Spring. Sunday, May 26

Lake Tour by Kayak: Tour Little Seneca Lake by kayak Sunday, May 26 from 9-11 a.m. Basic paddling experience is necessary for this Montgomery Parks activity at the Black Hill Regional Park in Boyds. Boats, paddles, and PFDs will be supplied, but you can bring your own PFD (Type III or V) if you have one. Fee is $30. Appropriate for ages 12 and up. Flags For Our Heroes: The display of 700 American flags on Memorial Day Weekend returns to Gaithersburg’s Bohrer Park. Opening ceremony takes place Saturday, May 25 at 11 a.m. with the flag retirement ceremony on Sunday, May 26 at 6:30 p.m. Free. Bohrer Park is located at 506 South Frederick Avenue in Gaithersburg. Red Hot Blues & BBQ Dance Weekend: Capital Blues dance weekend features local blues legends Stacy Brooks and Carly Harvey, and headliner D.K. Harrell. The event takes place at various locations around town, and on Saturday at the Spanish Ballroom in Glen Echo Park. All levels of dance experience are welcome. Events run from Friday, May 24 through Memorial Day, Monday, May 27. The main dance Sunday at Glen Echo Park takes place from 8-11 p.m. For more information and purchase tickets, click here.

Monday, May 27

Memorial Day County Schedule: Most County government offices and programs will be closed Monday, May 27 in observance of Memorial Day. Find the county schedule here.

Memorial Day Ceremony and Parade: The Memorial Day Ceremony and Parade is a long-standing tradition in the city of Rockville. The day starts at 9 a.m. with a musical tribute by the Rockville Concert Band and Chorus, followed by the ceremony remembering those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms and concludes with the annual parade at 10:30 a.m. The parade features more than 50 units, including military and community groups, marching units, dance troupes, and more. Memorial Day in the Trees: Celebrate the holiday with a great outdoor adventure. Get the whole family out of the house on Monday, May 27 and grab some outdoor excitement in the trees. Zip lines, climbing, axe throwing, food, and more await The park includes 16 courses made up of bridges, ziplines, ladders, rolling elements and unique climbing challenges. The park is open Monday, May 27 from 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Admission fee varies. Purchase tickets for here.
