Montgomery and State COVID-19 Positive Test Rate Continues to Drop

Montgomery County COVID-19 Statistics

Thursday morning the Maryland Department of Health reported 12,226 cases of COVID-19 in Montgomery County, which is an increase of 302 cases from the 11,924 reported Wednesday.

Since the first case in March, 596 county residents have died from COVID-19. This is an increase of three deaths since Wednesday, according to the health department. The number of probable deaths is 40.

Montgomery County has seen more deaths due to COVID-19 than any other jurisdiction in the state. Prince George’s has lost 556 residents to the pandemic.

The positivity rate of 11.51%, reported by the state health department, is the second-highest in the state, behind Prince George’s at 13.73%.  The state calculates the positivity rate using the average rate for seven days. Montgomery County reported a positivity rate of 12% Wednesday based on a rolling three-day average.

Maryland COVID-19 Statistics

As of Thursday morning, there were 55,858 confirmed cases throughout the state. That is an increase of 876 cases in the last 24 hours. COVID-19 has claimed the lives of 2,546 Marylanders, 27 in the last 24 hours.

May 9 the state reported 1,665 Marylanders were hospitalized with COVID-19. Since that time the number of patients hospitalized has been on the decline.

Currently,  1,096 Marylanders are hospitalized with COVID-19, which is 13 fewer than Wednesday. Of those patients, 456 are in intensive care, which is a decrease of 15 since Wednesday.

In Maryland, 9,217 people have been hospitalized since the outbreak of COVID-19.

The state’s positivity rate continues to drop, currently, it is 8.91%.

A total of  16,035 cases and 1,061 deaths involve the state’s African American community. This is 18 additional deaths since Wednesday.
