Montgomery County to Host Webinars on Addiction and Recovery

Montgomery County’s Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Advisory Council (AODAAC) is sponsoring a three part webinar series discussing the basics of addiction and the pathways to recovery.

The first webinar, “What is Addiction/Substance Use Disorder?,” will be held Feb. 19, from noon to 1 p.m. Keynote speakers will be Sara Rose, Operations Manager for DHHS Local Behavioral Health Authority & Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, and Joey Zabel, president of the Board for Arise and Flourish.

The second webinar, “What is Recovery?: Pathways to Recovery,” will be held on March 26, from noon to 1 p.m. LaTonia Rich, executive director of Tree of Hope, and Anne Ellis and Elizabeth Leek, public relations committee members for 12-Step Fellowship, will be speaking.

The final webinar, “AODAAC and Provider Panel Q & A,” will be held on April 2, from noon to 1:30 p.m. The panel will consists of AODAAC voting members, Youth Ambassador program representatives, and local treatment providers. Attendees are encouraged to save their questions for the final webinar.

The AODAAC hopes the webinars will provide a pathway to recovery and disrupt the addiction cycle for those facing it, and educate others.

“The most difficult part of recovery can be taking that first step in the journey,” said Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Director Dr. Raymond Crowel. “Sometimes, trying to understand all the services available to fight addiction can be overwhelming and a barrier to getting started in recovery.”

The webinar series is free and open to the public. Advanced registration is required, which residents can access online.

“We hope that this series of webinars can help simplify the process, give greater clarity to the robust landscape of resources available in Montgomery County, and ultimately save lives,” Crowel said.
