Olympic dream close for ice dancing pair

They’ve gone from training as young kids at the Wheaton Ice Skating Academy to now being on the doorstep of qualifying for the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan Cortina, Italy. Montgomery County natives Caroline Green and Michael Parsons have teamed up for many years competing in ice dancing. Now, they are just a few great routines away from representing their country in the upcoming Winter Games. They will participate in the U.S. Figure Skating Championship in St. Louis, Missouri on January 8 and 10th. Green and Parsons are vying for three pair spots in ice dancing in the Olympics that will be awarded on January 11.

Born on the same day eight years apart, the 30-year old Parsons and Green have been skating together since 2019. Along the way they have captured medals on the world stage. Green, who grew up in Rockville and Parsons hailing from Derwood, earned the 2022 Four Continents Championships gold medal and won national medals, including bronze at the 2025 U.S. Figure Skating Championships.

Both athletes stumbled into ice skating at very young ages. Green began skating at age 5 because her brother was taking lessons. Parsons started at age 7 because he wanted to improve his hockey skills. Both attended Montgomery County public schools with Green graduating from Richard Montgomery High School in 2022 and Parsons from Colonel Zadok A. Magruder High School in 2014.
