Parents, students speak out to keep Wootton at Wootton

Parents, students and elected officials are protesting a proposal from Montgomery County Public Schools that would permanently move Rockville’s Wootton High School student body to Gaithersburg’s new Crown High School.

On Thursday, the Wootton cluster community rallied outside the school board building and filled the meeting room to testify in support of keeping the students in place at their current campus.

Under this particular boundary study option—called “Option H”—Wootton would turn into a holding school for other campuses under construction.

MCPS is conducting an online boundary study survey for the community. The opportunity for the public to submit an opinion closes Friday.

An online petition called “Save Wootton and Crown High School – Say NO to ‘Option H'” has 4,327 signatures as of the publishing if this article.

Next month, MCPS Superintendent Thomas Taylor, Ed.D., will present a recommendation.
