Montgomery County Police officers identified the cyclists who died Thursday afternoon. He was Robert Sheldon Boethling, 76, of Silver Spring.
According to police Boethling was riding his bicycle on the right shoulder of northbound New Hampshire Avenue when the driver of a Toyota RAV4 was heading northbound. The Toyota driver struck the cyclist on the shoulder of the road.

A cyclist was killed Thursday afternoon following a crash in the 15200 block of New Hampshire Avenue in Cloverly at 2 p.m., according to Montgomery County police.
The adult male cyclist was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the SUV remained on the scene.
The collision is under investigation.
UPDATE: Officers dispatched at 2:01 p.m. to the area of New Hampshire Ave. and Southview Ave. for a collision involving a vehicle and a cyclist.
