Toys for Tots Short on Donations in Montgomery County

It is the height of the holiday season, but Toys for Tots in Montgomery County faces a donation shortage. Specifically, they are in need of toys for teens and adults with special needs.

The county almost did not have the Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program this year. The group does not have a permanent warehouse space, but was able to secure a temporary place in Gaithersburg this season.

MCM toured the temporary warehouse Toys for Tots uses in Gaithersburg on Friday with Christmas just six days away. In the video below, learn more about the effort from Toys for Tots Coordinator Elizabeth Scott and Charisse Scott, co-founder of the local nonprofit ComuniBuild Foundation, who is working to ramp up donations during a challenging gift giving season.

Organizers at Toys for Tots say they would like to secure a permanent space in the county so the group can seamlessly do its work to provide thousands of toys to youth in the area.

As for this holiday season that will soon come to a close, residents can bring donations to the warehouse at 8569 Atlas Drive in Gaithersburg until Monday, Dec. 22.

And from 6-10 p.m. Friday, ComuniBuild will host a fundraiser at Restaurant 198 in Burtonsville.
