Police: Man Charged For Silver Spring Mail Theft

Police said a man was arrested and charged for mail theft this week. 

In a release, the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) said detectives arrested and charged Shaheem Jerry Denson, 26, of Hyattsville for the incident that occurred in the 8100 block of Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring on Thursday.

Police said that at about 5 a.m., officers saw Denson standing in front of two USPS mail collection boxes and he appeared to reach into a box. When officers approached, he began to walk away and discarded mail and a homemade device designed to steal mail.

Police said Denson was arrested without incident and charged with mail theft and felony theft. He was released on his own recognizance the same day.
